Context
We designed and illustrated the presentation for Luís Mauro Moura — a mechanical engineering professor at PUCPR (Brazil) — and Marno Iockheck — a mechanical engineer who developed the Differential Cycle engine as his master's research under Moura's advisory — translating their engineering explanations into a clear visual narrative.
The Differential Cycle is a patented thermodynamic cycle, co-invented with Saulo Finco, that lets power and rotation be controlled independently — something combustion engines can't do without a gearbox. It can also run on any heat source without needing oxygen or water, and operate down to near-zero rotation, a range otherwise only seen in electric motors.
A smaller-scale prototype was already running at the time, but the project needed funding to build a larger motor that could prove its efficiency at scale.
I was asked to design a short presentation making the case for the technology to potential investors and partners: how the cycle works, and where it could replace existing technology, from power generation to space propulsion.

Eight slides, illustrated from scratch: how the differential cycle compares to classic engine cycles, how its conversion system works, and where it could replace existing technology — from steam turbines and Stirling engines to rocket propulsion and submarine power.
Animation
To make the conversion mechanism easier to follow, we animated its moving parts — showing how the gas travels between chambers as the differential cycle runs through its isothermal and adiabatic steps.
